Photo Check-in at the North Square of Giant Wild Goose Pagoda
The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is located in Daci'en Temple, Xi'an. It is a Buddhist pagoda presided over and built by Master Xuanzang in the third year of the Yonghui era of the Tang Dynasty (652 AD) to preserve the scriptures and Buddha statues brought back from his westward journey. It was initially five stories tall, and after several repairs and reconstructions in later dynasties, it has become the current seven-story pagoda with a total height of 64.517 meters, which is the earliest and largest existing Tang Dynasty square pavilion-style brick pagoda in China. The pagoda body is covered with exquisite Tang Dynasty brick carvings, and a built-in staircase allows visitors to climb up and overlook the cityscape of Xi'an. The pagoda also houses precious cultural relics such as pattra-leaf scriptures and sarira brought back by Xuanzang from his westward journey. The Tang Dynasty "Two Sages Three Wonders Stele" inlaid on both sides of the south gate opening at the bottom of the pagoda is a rare treasure with both calligraphy and historical value. As one of the urban symbols of Xi'an, the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is also a landmark building of Tang culture. The entrance ticket to the temple is 40 yuan per person, and an extra 20 yuan per person is required for climbing the pagoda. Surrounding supporting attractions such as the North Square of Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and Grand Tang Dynasty Ever-bright City together form the most popular cultural tourism area in Xi'an.
